Is Moving from California to Dallas Texas a Good Idea in 2022? | Living in Dallas Texas

Is moving from California to Dallas Texas a good idea? A lot of people are starting to ask this question! There is a mass migration from states like California, New York, Washington State, etc., and I was one of those people who made the move to Dallas. Was it a good move? Today, I’ll tell you all about my move from California to Dallas Texas, and you can make that decision yourself! First off, I’ve always lived in California – my entire life, in fact.

Moving to Dallas was a huge decision for me and my kids, and it wasn’t something I decided to do on a whim. I actually researched the Living in Dallas Texas channel before I became a real estate agent here, believe it or not! When I decided to consider moving to Dallas Texas, I came out and drove around the areas, trying to decide which spot was best for me. I finally landed in Frisco, and it was one of the best decisions of my life!

Between the amazing schools, the clean roads, the beautiful homes, the great neighborhoods, and the overall vibe of Dallas, it just felt right for me and my family. There are lots of pros to living here in Dallas, but to give you a full scope of what it’s like to live here, I’ll also give you a few cons so that you can weight out whether it’s a good fit for you and your family. Let’s talk about moving from California to Dallas Texas today!

MY STORY OF MOVING FROM CALIFORNIA TO DALLAS TEXAS

Like I said before, I’ve lived in California my entire life up until now. That being said, when the possibility of a move out of state came up, I started to realize that there were some things about California that I simply didn’t like… and I wanted to change that for my kids. So I came into Dallas for a visit one day and started scoping out the areas, and I did a TON of research using this exact channel – the Living in Dallas Texas YouTube channel! The videos here were so helpful in finding the right suburb.

Once I hit Frisco, I just knew this was where I was supposed to be – it just felt right! That’s one thing that I think will happen for you as you watch the Living in Dallas Texas real estate videos from this team – you’ll get a feeling when it’s right. That’s how it was for me!

THE OVERALL VIBE OF DALLAS TEXAS

The overall vibe here is so fun, non-judgmental, and accepting, and that’s one of the things that I really loved about it from the get-go. In California, I didn’t feel that same level of acceptance in our communities! It was all or none in many situations. Here, the vibe is laid back, accepting, and just overall more my speed, which is a major plus for me.

TONS OF HOMES AND HOME LOTS TO CHOOSE FROM IN DALLAS

There are also tons of homes and home lots to choose from here! California has a very limited inventory, both because of the extreme housing prices and because of the housing shortage, so you don’t have a whole lot of choice when it comes to where you want to live and what you want your home to look like in California. Here, the sky is the limit! There are so many amazing suburbs, and within each of them, there are lots of new construction and existing homes to choose from, even though inventory is still considered lower than normal here.

PERSONABLE SCHOOL STAFF AND AMAZING SCHOOLS IN DALLAS TX

The personable school staffs in this area are phenomenal! In the video, I tell some of my personal needs with school staff, especially for my son, and boy… the schools here go above and beyond to really make you and your children feel welcome! I felt so at ease knowing that my kids were being taught and supported by a staff that genuinely cared, and I get regular, positive updates about my children all the time – that’s totally different than what I saw in California!

EXTREMELY CLEAN IN DALLAS TEXAS

Dallas is a super clean area, especially in comparison to California. Other members of our team have talked at length about this, but California is actually extremely dirty, from the streets to the air quality. It just was not what I wanted for my kids, and coming to the Dallas area, you see clean streets and HOA fees that ACTUALLY pay for the cleanliness and comeliness of the neighborhoods. It’s a very nice change!

A FEW CONS OF LIVING IN DALLAS TEXAS

A few VERY minor cons to living here in Dallas. One, there are a LOT of medical choices here in Dallas, and for us Californians, it’s possibly too many choices! In California, we have Kaiser that provides everything, so when I came here, I felt way out of my element having to access all different services from all different providers.

Another minor con is the number of tolls and toll roads here. When I first moved here, I didn’t know about the tolls and racked up a pretty hefty bill… so be aware of those! That being said, those tolls fees actually do go right back into the community, and it’s reflected in the clean, beautiful streets that Dallas is well-known for. So ultimately, it’s not so bad… just be aware of them!

Finally, the elephant in the room… Property taxes. They’re higher here than average. However, that’s offset by having no income tax, and there are ways to lock in your tax rate somewhat, like using the Homestead exemption. Overall, it’s really not as bad as it looks on paper, but again, be sure to be aware of that when you move here!

I’d love to help you and your family make a move to Dallas Texas, just like I did! If you need any help with learning about the surrounding suburbs or making a smooth move from somewhere like California, don’t hesitate to reach out! I’d love to help!
